Roman Bridges Loop

Five gems along the ancient Via Julia Augusta…

The first part of this beautiful circular hike is an easy and enjoyable walk through the Val Ponci valley, following the route of the ancient Via Julia Augusta. Along the way, you’ll cross five remarkable stone bridges built by the Romans almost 2,000 years ago, all of which have survived in remarkably good condition.

The second part of the route becomes more challenging. After a stop at the Ciappo del Sale, famous for its mysterious rock engravings, the trail climbs to the summit of the impressive Rocca di Corno (313 m), where breathtaking views stretch across Finale Ligure and as far as Gallinara Island.

The descent back to the starting point includes a few short and enjoyable rocky sections equipped with fixed ropes. These passages can easily be avoided by following an alternative and less demanding route.

For more adventurous hikers, a steep detour leads to the summit of Rocca degli Uccelli (371 m), a spectacular rocky peak offering outstanding views of the Boragni cliffs, the Rocche Bianche, and Rocca dei Corvi.
